Curtis Jones has returned to full training ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.

The midfielder, 23, missed the last two matches prior to September’s international break due to a minor muscle problem but has now completed his recovery programme.

New signing Federico Chiesa, meanwhile, was also part of Arne Slot’s squad who were put through their paces at Kirkby on Tuesday as he eyes a Liverpool debut.

Chiesa has used the break building up his fitness after agreeing with Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti that his time would be better spent settling in on Merseyside rather than linking up with the national team.

The 26-year-old hasn’t played since Italy’s last 16 defeat to Switzerland in the European Championship in late June having been frozen out by Juventus head coach Thiago Motta when he reported back for pre-season training in July.

Chiesa, who cost Liverpool an initial fee of £10million, trained with Liverpool Under-21s last week while senior players not on international duty enjoyed some time off.

Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez, who is serving a five-match international ban, and Joe Gomez, who was overlooked by England, were among those to report back to Kirkby on Monday.

They were both involved in Tuesday’s session, along with a host of youngsters including attacker Rio Ngumoha, whose move from Chelsea’s academy was completed last week after the Premier League gave the green light to the transfer.

The England youth international could make his debut for Liverpool Under-18s at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The South American contingent of Alisson, Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister will be the last to report back from international duties, with Slot hoping to have a full squad to work with from Thursday onwards as they prepare to face Forest.
