Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare set for two months out with hamstring injury

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is expected to be sidelined for at least two months with a hamstring injury.

The Ivory Coast international underwent surgery to repair a muscle tear on Saturday and will now begin his rehabilitation.

It is a blow for Sangare, 26, who had made a positive start to the season, with Nuno Espirito Santo having utilised him in his starting line-up in all three Premier League games, prior to Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

Sangare had struggled for consistency last season, following his £30million deadline day move from PSV in September 2023.

But Nuno had regarded him as being a potentially key figure, as Forest embark on their third season of top flight football.

The performance of James Ward-Prowse, who made his full debut after joining on loan from West Ham at Liverpool — and that of long-serving Ryan Yates — will have helped to ease the frustration for the Forest head coach.

Forest claimed their first win at Anfield since 1969, as Callum Hudson-Odoi’s goal capped off a fine tactical display.

They return to Premier League action against Brighton & Hove Albion a week on Sunday.
