Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick says he will not rest Lamine Yamal during Wednesday’s La Liga game against Getafe.
Yamal, who turned 17 in July, has started all seven of Barcelona’s games so far this season, playing at least 80 minutes in all of them.
That follows a busy 2023-24 campaign for Yamal, who played 50 times for Barcelona and 16 times for Spain as he helped his country win the European Championship. The winger started every game in Germany apart from their dead rubber final group match.
Yamal has arguably been Barcelona’s best player this season, contributing four goals and five assists in his seven appearances, including a eye-catching pass to set up Raphinha during Sunday’s 5-1 win at Villarreal.

“We’ll see,” Flick said on Tuesday when asked if Yamal could be rested against Getafe. “We have all the data on the players, right now he doesn’t have to rest. He feels good.
“We’ll look at it, but I don’t think he needs to rest tomorrow. It’s also important to start well at home, with a great starting line-up. We have to keep performing like this and show it to our fans.”
Yamal is the latest player to break into Barcelona’s first team from La Masia but the club have previously seen similar talents afflicted by injuries in the young careers, with Pedri afflicted by several issues since playing 73 games for club and country during the 2020-21 season. Fellow midfielder Gavi sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last November after featuring 57 times or more in successive seasons between 2021 and 2023.
Barcelona have won all six of their La Liga matches to begin the season but lost 2-1 at Monaco in their Champions League league phase opener last week. Following the Getafe game, Barcelona face Osasuna, Young Boys and Alaves before the October international break.
