Wolverhampton Wanderers could welcome back Craig Dawson for tomorrow’s Premier League trip to Brentford after the defender returned to training after illness.
But boss Gary O’Neil has warned that Dawson, 34, has still not trained fully after missing last weekend’s defeat to Liverpool because of a virus.
Dawson is expected to travel to London while fellow centre-back Santiago Bueno is also available despite limping off in the closing stages of the Liverpool defeat due to a glute muscle injury.
O’Neil has also responded to in-match criticism from Sky commentator and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, who criticised Wolves for taking too long to pass forwards in the final stages when they trailed 2-1.
“I think it was a good assessment of that one phase of play,” said O’Neil. “I was equally as frustrated as Gary that we recycled the ball so many times with only six minutes left or something like that.
“The players always have decisions to make about how direct we’re going to be and understanding the state of the game and in that phase we were too patient.
“But equally, later in that phase, we do get through with Tommy Doyle and then we arrive in the final third and then we were not patient enough once we got there.
“There’s no one-size-fits-all answer like ‘we’re losing, let’s just get it to the front as quickly as we can’.
“Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate will be fairly well equipped to deal with anything just booted up the pitch.
“So of course we need to show urgency and we need to find a way to get ourselves back into the game and that one phase was too patient.”
Wolves are at the foot of the Premier League with just one point from their opening six matches.
