Texans star WR Nico Collins considered 'week to week' with hamstring injury

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins will be “week to week” with a hamstring injury, head coach DeMeco Ryans said on Monday.

“Nico is in good spirits. Of course, it takes a couple of weeks for a hamstring. We’ll evaluate that on a week-to-week basis and see where we can get him,” Ryans said.

Collins suffered the hamstring injury in the first quarter of the Texans’ 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. The fourth-year wide receiver caught both of his targets for 78 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown in which he limped as he jogged into the end zone to give the Texans a 14-3 lead.

The 25-year-old has become quarterback C.J. Stroud’s go-to-target for the AFC South-leading Texans. Collins leads the league in receiving yards (567), is tied for third in receptions (32) and fifth in targets (45). With Collins sidelined, Stroud will turn to four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs, second-year pass catcher Tank Dell and veteran tight end Dalton Schultz to lead the way in the passing game.

Coming off his breakout 80-catch, 1,297-receiving yard season in 2023, Collins nabbed a three-year contract extension with Houston.

In other Texans injury news, Ryans did not know if running back Joe Mixon would be ready to go for the team’s Week 6 game against the New England Patriots. Mixon has missed the last three games with an ankle injury. The eight-year veteran was acquired in an offseason trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has tallied 184 rushing yards with a touchdown and 44 receiving yards in two games.
