Davante Adams joins Aaron Rodgers on 'The Pat McAfee Show' hours after trade to Jets

Hours after his New York Jets traded for star receiver Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers made his first public comments on the deal during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday.

While Rodgers was speaking with McAfee, Adams popped up on-screen behind the quarterback and briefly spoke on the show.

“We’re back, man,” Adams said. “We’re back.”

Adams, who played in the Raiders’ first three games this season, has missed time with a hamstring injury. When asked about the extent of his hamstring injury, Adams indicated he’s ready to get going.

“I’m feeling great, man,” he told McAfee. “Feeling great. I was working with the staff over in Vegas the whole time and they got me back right, so fortunately, I’ll be able to roll.”

Rodgers said he is “really excited” about Adams’ addition to New York, which is now 2-4 following a third consecutive loss Monday night against the Buffalo Bills.

“He’s a phenomenal player and a dear friend,” Rodgers said Tuesday. “It was a crappy day yesterday obviously. We had a real good chance to get to 3-3 and win a home game. Kind of gave that one away.

“I was pissed, driving home through traffic, had a couple messages, I was just not in the mood to talk to anybody. Got home, and (Adams) had called me and texted me, so I finally called him back. So about, I don’t know, 12:30, 12:45 last night I heard the news.”

Adams was also asked about getting up to speed with New York’s offense.

“I’m sure there’s a few new little nuances, but for the most part a lot of the same verbiage,” he said. “Still the same OG right here, so should be able to pick up where we left off. That’s the idea.”

Rodgers said Adams is “right at the top of the list of guys that I really care about that are family to me” around the NFL, and the two have “done a lot of great things over the years” as teammates.

“He’s made me look good a lot of times,” Rodgers said. “So, I’m really excited about it. I think it’s exciting for our team. We definitely got better today.”

Adams joins an offense that has three 200-plus yard receivers through Week 6 in Garrett Wilson (41 catches, 399 yards, three TD), Allen Lazard (26 catches, 354 yards, five TD) and running back Breece Hall (26 catches, 204 yards, TD). Rodgers said Adams’ addition “infuses a lot of energy into the team right away.”

“He’s a proven star player. He’s an asset. He’s an incredible locker room presence,” Rodgers said. “I think it’s really going to help Garrett out. I think when you’re able to be around a guy who’s done it at a high level for a long time, just see how he goes about his process through osmosis there’s going to be a lot of things he’ll be able to pick up.

“And I think Garrett the last two weeks has played really good. I think it was his best game last night and you look at the stats we had two 100-yard receivers, we had a 100-yard back. We played better on offense in certain spots, we were just were terrible in the red zone and missed some easy opportunities.

The Jets will look to end their three-game losing streak in Week 7, traveling to play the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) on Sunday night.
