Browns' Kevin Stefanski on RB Nick Chubb's availability for Sunday: 'I expect him to play'

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is expected to return to the field in the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday.

“I expect him to play,” Stefanski said.

Chubb began the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after sustaining a torn ACL, PCL and MCL in Week 2 of the 2023 season and having two surgeries. The injury was to the same left knee he severely injured in 2015 at the University of Georgia, which cost him much of his sophomore season.

Chubb returned to practice for the first time this season two weeks ago.

In his absence, Jerome Ford, a third-year running back out of Cincinnati, has been the leading rusher for Cleveland. Ford has 921 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, 381 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns through 20 games, dating to Week 3 of last season, when the Browns played their first game without Chubb after his injury.

The Browns selected Chubb in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In his seventh NFL season, the four-time Pro Bowler ranks fourth in rushing yards (6,511) and third in rushing touchdowns (48) in franchise history.

Cleveland (1-4) is tied with the Bengals for last in the AFC North. The Browns face the Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) on the road Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
