Colorado coach Deion Sanders playfully called out former President Barack Obama after Obama joked about the Buffaloes’ roster ahead of Saturday’s game against Arizona.
On Friday, Obama attended a campaign rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Tucson, Ariz., and said he saw the busses for Colorado’s football team at the airport.
“Colorado’s got a couple of good players,” Obama told the crowd. “I also know you guys have beaten them twice in a row. Don’t bet against the Wildcats tomorrow.”
Arizona didn’t live up to Obama’s prediction, with Colorado winning 34-7 at the Wildcats’ State Farm Stadium. The Buffaloes’ win prompted reporters to ask Sanders about Obama’s comments.
“I love him. I admire him. I respect him tremendously, but I heard what he said,” Sanders said of Obama. “We have more than two good players. … President, c’mon, man.”

Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders went 23-of-33 passing, throwing for 250 yards, two touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and two interceptions. Star cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter started Saturday after injuring his shoulder against Kansas State last week.
Colorado sat him in the second half against Arizona to be cautious with his shoulder. The Buffaloes improved to 5-2 with Saturday’s win, while Arizona fell to 3-4.
Last year, Arizona beat Colorado 34-31 during Sanders’ first season with the program. In 2022, the Wildcats defeated the Buffaloes 43-20, prompting Colorado to fire coach Karl Dorrell in the wake of the team’s 0-5 start to the season.
