Oklahoma fired first-year offensive coordinator Seth Littrell on Sunday, with the Sooners having lost three of their last four games and sitting at 132nd in the country in offense.
Head coach Brent Venables announced the move a day after Oklahoma (4-3) lost 35-9 to South Carolina. The Sooners have scored just 12 points in the last two games and are averaging 4.31 yards per play in their first season in the SEC. In the interim, co-OC Joe Jon Finley will continue his role and take on primary play-calling responsibilities while offensive analyst Kevin Johns will be elevated to co-OC and quarterbacks coach.
Littrell, a former Oklahoma player and North Texas head coach from 2016-22 was brought back to Oklahoma last year as an offensive analyst and promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach when Jeff Lebby left to become Mississippi State’s head coach.
Playing behind an offensive line rebuilt mostly through the transfer portal, both of the Sooners’ inexperienced quarterbacks, Jackson Arnold and Michael Hawkins, have struggled.
The team has also been beset by injuries at receiver.
Oklahoma plays at No. 18 Ole Miss on Saturday and has three more ranked SEC opponents, No. 21 Missouri, No. 15 Alabama and No. 8 LSU, left on its schedule, along with FCS Maine.
