Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is set to miss around two weeks of action with a groin injury.
The Belgium international played the full match in Madrid’s 5-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday but the club confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that he had “an injury to the adductor muscle of his left leg”.
Courtois will miss Saturday’s Clasico against Barcelona in La Liga and is also a doubt for several upcoming matches for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Madrid are away at Valencia in the Spanish top-flight on November 2, followed by a Champions League clash against AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu three days later and a home league game against Osasuna on October 9 before the international break.
The former Chelsea shot-stopper, 32, is set to be replaced in the starting line-up by Andriy Lunin, who played 31 matches for Ancelotti’s side last season while Courtois was absent with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Lunin impressed for Madrid, helping the club win the league title and reach the Champions League final, where he was replaced by the returning Courtois in the victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Madrid trail Barcelona by three points at the top of La Liga, while a home win on Saturday would see them move level with their rivals at the top of the table.
