The Athletic MLB Reader Poll: Is a Dodgers-Yankees World Series good or bad for baseball?

It’s not entirely surprising that we ended up at this point. The Yankees and the Dodgers, who will face off in this year’s Fall Classic, are superstar-laden teams from MLB’s two biggest media markets and are both top-5 teams in regards to payroll. The 2024 World Series will be a real-life clash of titans, led by two of baseball’s biggest — and most powerful — stars in Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. This should be great, right? Who wouldn’t want this?

(That’s a rhetorical question.)

Reactions across social media, as expected, have been … mixed. We’ve seen the gamut. There are those who are excited to see some of the game’s marquee players face off on the sport’s biggest stage and those who are hopeful this matchup could bring casual and international fans into the fold and help boost baseball’s profile. Those who don’t like what this combined payroll says about the competitive field in the future and those who would root for the meteor every single time.

We want to know what you think, and so we’re allowing you a chance to explain your thoughts here:

Is a Yankees-Dodgers World Series good or bad for baseball?

Yes.

No.

It’s complicated.

Bring your nuanced debate or your pure spite, whatever works. If you’re a fan of either team, you can also include that in your comment. We’ll keep the poll open until 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 24 and share the results, as well as some of your thoughts, in a future story.
