ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia receiver Colbie Young was arrested early Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail website.
No other details were immediately available. Young was booked at 4:18 a.m., with bond set at $2,500, and remained in jail as of four hours later.
“This is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time,” Georgia associate athletic director Steven Drummond said in a statement.
Young, a senior, transferred from Miami after last season. He has two touchdown catches this season, and his 11 catches for 149 yards make him the Bulldogs’ fourth-leading receiver.
Young is the second transfer receiver in recent years to be arrested shortly after joining the program: Rara Thomas was arrested on misdemeanor battery charges in January 2023, within a month after transferring from Mississippi State. He remained on the team after taking a plea deal, but was dismissed this summer after another arrest for battery.
This is the latest in a string of legal issues for the Georgia program, which has seen 10 players and one staff member arrested for driving-related incidents since January 2023.
