Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has had minor surgery after experiencing heart palpitations and hopes to be available to play in the next few weeks.
Mazraoui pulled out of the Morocco squad on Monday, with United saying his withdrawal was “a precaution”.
The 26-year-old was substituted at half-time of last Sunday’s goalless draw against Aston Villa. United manager Erik ten Hag confirmed after the game it was a forced withdrawal and Mazraoui would have to be assessed, but did not specify his issue.
Sources close to United and the player expect Mazraoui to make a full recovery from what is a relatively common condition, following his corrective procedure.
Mazraoui joined United from Bayern Munich in the summer, alongside centre-back Matthijs De Ligt, signing a four-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
The Moroccan has played in all of United’s games this season, starting all eight of their Premier League and Europa League matches and coming off the bench in their Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley.
United return to action after the break with a home match against Brentford on Saturday, October 19.
