Dodgers' Gavin Stone likely to miss all of 2025 after shoulder surgery

LOS ANGELES — Gavin Stone, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ breakout rookie, underwent surgery this week on his right shoulder and is expected to miss the entirety of the 2025 season, the team announced Saturday.

Stone is among several starting pitching options not available for the Dodgers this postseason as they open the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets on Sunday. Stone joins Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, River Ryan and Emmet Sheehan among the notable starters felled by injuries.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said last month when Stone was first put on the injured list that initial imaging was not enough to make surgery an option at that time. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the surgery, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, “identified a lot of stuff that was going on in the shoulder” but didn’t have any further details on the injury or specific surgery. The Dodgers originally listed Stone as having “right shoulder inflammation.”

It’s a significant absence for the Dodgers this fall and next season nonetheless. When he landed on the injured list in September, Stone was the only Dodgers starter to make every turn through their rotation. In 140 1/3 innings, the 25-year-old right-hander went 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA.
