Colorado WR Travis Hunter expected to play vs. Arizona after shoulder injury

Colorado expects star cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter to be able to play Saturday against Arizona after injuring his shoulder against Kansas State, coach Deion Sanders told reporters Tuesday.

Hunter exited with the injury before the half in Saturday’s 31-28 loss. He appeared to suffer the injury on offense, after a hit to his right shoulder by Kansas State safety Daniel Cobbs. Hunter returned to the sideline in uniform after going to the locker room but he did not play the rest of the night. He finished Saturday’s game with three receptions for 26 yards plus a tackle on defense.

On Tuesday, Sanders told reporters: “Travis should play for certain on Saturday.”

It’s welcome news for the Buffaloes, which are 4-2 this season. Hunter is considered a Heisman favorite alongside Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who topped The Athletic’s Heisman straw poll Tuesday.

Hunter has posted 587 receiving yards and six touchdowns this season, to go along with 16 tackles and a forced fumble. He played 44 of the first 45 snaps of Saturday’s game before leaving with the injury — 21 on defense and 23 on offense.

Three other receivers — Jimmy Horn, Omarion Miller and Terrell Timmons Jr. — also exited Saturday’s loss with injuries. Sanders said Horn is expected to play against Arizona. Miller, who had eight catches for 145 yards before exiting with a leg injury, had surgery Monday and is not expected to return this season, Sanders said.
