Enzo Maresca is confident the split between the Chelsea ownership will not be a negative distraction for the team.
There is now a battle for control of the football club with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali from Clearlake Capital looking to buy out each other’s stake at Stamford Bridge.
A quick resolution seems optimistic with neither party wanting to cut their ties with Chelsea, despite hope from Boehly’s camp that a resolution will be found within a few months.
Maresca does not believe the furore will disrupt him or the squad. When asked by The Athletic if he has felt the need to reassure the players about the situation, Chelsea’s head coach said: “No. I think the players are professional enough to understand these kind of things, that we cannot do anything, we cannot control.
“So the main focus is the same for me as the players, (what we can do on) the pitch, to improve things. This is the main target for them, for me, for all of us.
“I spoke with Todd when we played Manchester City and Behdad a few days ago. There is no problem (for me) at all. My focus is on the pitch because it is the only thing I can control.
“If I spend my energy on something different, it is not worth it. My focus is just about tomorrow’s game (against Bournemouth) to be honest. In the last week I try to do exactly the same, to prepare for the game in the best way.
“I don’t know if something is going to happen (sooner or later). I have no idea. The only thing I can say is in terms of the football side, we are going in the right direction. The team is improving. This is the thing we can control.”
