Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin will have surgery after injuring his ankle in Monday night’s 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, a team source said.
Godwin will undergo an MRI on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s other top pass catcher, Mike Evans, is also expected to have an MRI this week to determine the extent of the hamstring injury that took him out of Monday’s game in the second quarter, league sources said.
Godwin’s injury occurred in the final minute of the game at the end of a 21-yard catch and he had to be carted off the field. Bucs coach Todd Bowles said postgame that Godwin’s injury was believed to be a dislocated ankle and it “doesn’t look good.”

The 28-year-old was off to one of the best starts of his career, leading the Bucs in targets (62), receptions (50) and yards (576), and ranking first in receptions and second in yards in the NFL.
It would be his second major leg injury in four years. Godwin tore his ACL and MCL late in the 2021 season.
Evans went down with a hamstring injury while attempting to catch a pass in the end zone. Evans, who leads the NFL with six touchdown receptions, became the 11th player in NFL history to hit 100 receiving touchdowns and the fifth to catch all 100 with the same team on Monday with a touchdown in the first quarter.
The 31-year-old, who has eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving in all 10 pro seasons entering 2024, hasn’t missed a game since 2022.
