Commanders CB Kevon Seymour suspended 6 games for violating performance-enhancing substances policy

The NFC East-leading Washington Commanders will be without cornerback Kevon Seymour for the next six games after he was suspended Tuesday for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

The 30-year-old Seymour, a seven-year pro, has spent the bulk of his first season with the Commanders on the practice squad. He will not be eligible for reinstatement until Dec. 2, following Washington’s Week 13 home game versus the Tennessee Titans.

Seymour’s suspension won’t bump surging Washington (5-2) off course. After signing to the practice squad before Week 2, his two games played this season were exclusively on special teams, an area he helped the Baltimore Ravens with the previous three seasons. The Commanders rank fifth in special teams DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) according to FTNFantasy.com.

The loss slightly hampers depth at cornerback, arguably the Commanders’ weakest position unit. It’s not that Washington pegged Seymour for those snaps, but that could have been a factor if the team considered signing him to the active roster. Veteran Bobby Price, elevated for one game, and UDFA Chigozie Anusiem are the remaining practice-squad options behind five corners on the active roster.

A sixth-round pick in 2016, Seymour spent the previous three seasons in Baltimore after stints with the Eagles, Panthers and Bills to begin his career. The USC product has logged 84 tackles, eights pass deflections and one sack in 66 career games (seven starts).
