Nuno Espirito Santo spoke of his pride at seeing Nottingham Forest register their first win at Anfield since 1969 — and praised his players for following the tactical plan.
Forest claimed a memorable 1-0 success over Liverpool thanks to Callum Hudson-Odoi’s 72nd-minute goal.
The former Chelsea winger combined with fellow substitute Anthony Elanga, before cutting inside to curl a precise finish inside the far post.
It came after Forest had stifled the Liverpool midfield with a starting line-up that packed the centre of the pitch, frustrating the home crowd.
“We are very happy. Many of our fans in the stadium today were not even born then (the last time Forest won at Liverpool), so that says how hard it is to play at Anfield,” said Nuno.
“I’m proud of the work of the players, because they worked very hard. I’m proud of the way we behaved as a team.
“We knew how hard it was going to be. It was all about taking chances in the right moment, and we did.”
Forest’s plan was always to introduce the pace of Elanga and Hudson-Odoi in the latter stages of the game, as the recorded a landmark victory that lifted them to fourth in the Premier League table.
But all of the substitutes had an impact, with Jota, Morato and Neco Williams also introduced as Forest maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
“The subs came on and impacted the game, which was good,” said Nuno.
“Having options is good. Callum and Anthony impacted the game. Jota also did a good job and Morato and Neco (Williams) played well when they came on. We are trying to build a squad and we are going to need everybody, because it is going to be a very long season.”
Forest return to action against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, September 22.
