Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid was ruled out of Monday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets early in the first period with a lower-body injury, the Oilers announced.
While trying to secure the puck on the opening faceoff, McDavid appeared to trip before landing on his back and sliding into the wall. His shift lasted 37 seconds.

McDavid has tallied three goals and seven assists through nine games played this season.
Losing McDavid — the 2024 Conn Smythe winner as the playoffs MVP despite losing to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Final — would be a huge blow for an Oilers squad chasing last season’s success while battling back from an 0-3 start.
Edmonton is currently 4-4-1 and sits in fifth in the Pacific Division.
