Valencia vs Real Madrid set to be postponed due to flash flooding

Valencia’s league match against Real Madrid on Saturday is set to be postponed as a result of flash flooding and extreme weather conditions in the south east of Spain.

La Liga has requested that the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) reschedule the fixture for a later date, along with Villarreal’s clash with Rayo Vallecano.

Earlier on Wednesday, the RFEF announced the postponement of the Copa del Rey match between Valencia and Parla Escuela, which was due to take place in Madrid later in the evening.

Multiple people have been killed in flash floods caused by torrential rain in the eastern region of Valencia.

Red weather warnings for “extreme danger” remain in place across southern parts of the country.

Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium has been made available as an emergency aid station for volunteers collecting food and essential items for victims of the flooding.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric sent well wishes to those affected by the weather conditions, saying on Wednesday: “Lots of encouragement and strength to all the people of Valencia and the other provinces affected by the storm.”

Valencia are bottom of La Liga having taken just one win from their opening 11 games this season, while Real Mdrid are second and looking to bounce back from their 4-0 home defeat to rivals and league leaders Barcelona.
