MLS Season Pass commentator Taylor Twellman has been cleared to resume calling games, Major League Soccer announced on Friday, after its own internal investigation cleared him of allegations that he was involved in a physical altercation with an audio technician late last month.
Twellman had previously been removed from calling matches after that technician alleged that he and Twellman had an altercation during MLS’ broadcast of Inter Miami’s playoff match against Atlanta United. Sources involved in the production of that game told The Athletic earlier this week that audio difficulties occurred during the match.
“Following the Atlanta United at Inter Miami match on Oct. 25, a member of the production crew alleged that MLS Season Pass analyst Taylor Twellman made physical contact with him in the broadcast booth,” wrote MLS in a statement Friday. “Once Major League Soccer was made aware of the allegation, the League immediately opened a review of the allegation and Twellman was removed from his scheduled assignment on Nov. 9 while the review was ongoing. This process included interviews with individuals who were present in the commentary booth at the time of the incident.”
MLS’ investigation, the statement says, revealed that the contact was incidental.
“After this review, MLS determined that this was not a physical altercation, but that Twellman made incidental contact with the member of the production crew in an effort to communicate with him without audibly interrupting the live broadcast.”
Twellman declined to comment on the outcome of the investigation.
