Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson is expected to be made available for loan during the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old has started just once in the Premier League this season, making a further six appearances from the bench and scoring once. His goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers in October was his first in 11 months having missed the first month of the campaign through injury.
Ferguson had begun the 2023-24 season with six goals in 12 league matches, including a hat-trick against Newcastle United, but his campaign was curtailed in April by an ankle injury that ruled him out for the next six months.
The Athletic reported Brighton see Ferguson as a long-term investment, while his camp believe he will thrive again once he returns to full match sharpness.
The Republic of Ireland international signed a new contract in November 2023 which runs until 2029. He had already committed to a fresh deal in April of that year until 2028 amid interest from a number of clubs including Manchester United, with the fresh terms indicating how highly rated he is by Brighton.
Ferguson’s minutes have been limited this season, with Danny Welbeck Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler’s first-choice striker, the 34-year-old having scored six goals in 12 Premier League appearances. Joao Pedro has recently returned from an ankle injury and club-record signing Georginio Rutter adds to Brighton’s attacking depth.
