ATHENS — The fans at Sanford Stadium are stunned at halftime. No. 7 Georgia, favored by 19.5 points, is down 17-0 to Georgia Tech, and it could be worse than that.
Georgia Tech missed a 25-yard field goal and had a fourth-down try inside the 30 stopped. But as the half went, on the Yellow Jackets kept getting better, with two touchdown drives to make the upset look more and more likely.
Georgia can still come back. But it has looked like the far inferior team, getting outgained 307-137. Georgia Tech has driven deep into Georgia territory on all five of its drives, and Georgia’s offense has suffered from drops, a fumble in Georgia Tech territory, and its own fourth-down failure the only time it got in the red zone.
There’s still a long way to go here, but we’re 30 minutes away from one of the more stunning results of the college football season.
