Bruins' Jeremy Swayman remains unsigned, will not be on the ice for camp's start

BRIGHTON, Mass. — The Boston Bruins begin the on-ice portion of training camp on Thursday at Warrior Ice Arena. Jeremy Swayman will not participate because he is unsigned, general manager Don Sweeney said Wednesday.

“He has chosen to wait, and rightfully so, until a contract is settled,” Sweeney said. “It’s our intention to continue to negotiate a contract. I’m disappointed that, when you set things as a priority in a general manager’s spot, you do your best to accomplish that, and I haven’t been able to do that yet.”

Swayman and the Bruins have been unable to settle their differences over salary and term. Sweeney declined to specify where the sides have been unable to find common ground.

Swayman, 25, was the Bruins’ best player in the playoffs last season. The Linus Ullmark trade cleared the way for Swayman to be the No. 1 goalie in 2024-25, a title he has yet to hold. But without an agreement in place, Swayman cedes the net to Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi.

Sweeney said he will continue to speak with Lewis Gross, Swayman’s agent, in pursuit of an agreement. If Swayman does not sign by Dec. 1, he will be ineligible to play this season.

“As I said, I’m disappointed,” said Sweeney. “But at the end of the day, I’m optimistic. Because I think we’ll find a landing spot before Dec. 1.”
