Liverpool and Arne Slot have received an apology from Amazon Prime after it was claimed that Slot had visited the referee’s room at half-time of the 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on Wednesday.
The comment was made by presenter Dan Walker during the broadcast of Liverpool’s Premier League match at St James’ Park after Liverpool had gone into the break 1-0 down following a goal from Alexander Isak.
The suggestion was the Dutchman had visited referee Andy Madley at the interval after three Liverpool players had been booked in the first half.
When put to Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, Slot’s opposite number, he said: “I don’t think I’ll go there. I think that’s a can of worms. I tend to focus on my team.”
“Is that the sort of conversation you might have with the referee sometimes,” Howe was then asked by Walker on the broadcast. “No, I tend to focus on my team,” Howe responded. “I don’t know what happened at half-time. I have no idea.”
Amazon Prime has now issued an apology to Slot with the situation acknowledged by both parties to be a production misunderstanding.
Liverpool have accepted the apology and now consider the matter closed.
There were five more goals in the second half. Curtis Jones equalised, Anthony Gordon put Newcastle back in front and then two from Mohamed Salah had Liverpool 3-2 up before Fabian Schar scored a 90th-minute equaliser.
The 3-3 draw left Liverpool seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Slot’s side are next in action against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.
