Charlotte is expected to hire Ohio head coach Tim Albin as its next head coach, a person briefed on the decision told The Athletic.
Albin earlier Saturday led Ohio to a 38-3 MAC Championship Game win over Miami (Ohio), the Bobcats’ first MAC championship since 1968. Albin has gone 33-19 in four seasons, including three consecutive 10-win seasons, after taking over for Frank Solich following 14 years as the Bobcats’ offensive coordinator.
If the deal is completed, Albin will take over a young Charlotte program that began play in 2013 and has reached one bowl game in its history. The 49ers went 6-16 in two seasons under Biff Poggi, before Tim Brewster went 2-0 as interim head coach.
