The final two games of the critical series between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets were postponed on Wednesday and moved to a doubleheader Monday, Major League Baseball announced about two hours before the scheduled start of the second game of the three-game set.
Heavy rain blanketed the Atlanta area Wednesday. Inclement weather was also expected Thursday. The teams, who are locked in a battle for spots in the wild-card race, will likely have to wait until Monday to have their playoff fates determined, barring changes in the standings.
The Braves won the first game of the series, 5-1.
Entering Wednesday, the Mets (87-70) were the second wild card and had a one-game lead over the Braves (86-71), who were one spot behind the Arizona Diamondbacks (87-71) for the third wild-card spot.
Monday’s doubleheader will begin at 1:10 p.m. ET. Game 2 will take place 40 minutes after the end of Game 1.
