Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The 17-year-old signed a contract through to 2026 last summer but Barcelona have now offered the Spanish teenager improved terms on the deal and the option of an additional three years, which can be triggered once he turns 20.
The new agreement also includes a €500million (£415m; $557m) buyout clause.
Bernal had begun to establish himself in the Barcelona first team before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in August. He underwent surgery on the issue in September and is expected to be out for 12 months.
The Spaniard joins Pau Victor, Marc Casado, Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde, and Lamine Yamal on the list of La Masia talents who have signed contract extensions with the club in the last year.
After an impressive pre-season, Bernal had started to establish himself as a first-team regular for new head coach Hansi Flick.
The defensive midfielder made his La Liga debut on the opening day of the season, impressing in the 2-1 victory against Valencia and went on to start all three of his team’s league matches prior to his injury.
Barcelona are next in action against Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday.
