DJ Uiagalelei will be out Saturday vs. Clemson; Seminoles expected to start Brock Glenn

Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is out for the Seminoles’ game against Clemson game on Saturday, coach Mike Norvell confirmed to reporters on Tuesday.

“We still have some further testing to see what the longevity of that (is),” Norvell told reporters. “But he’ll likely be (out) the next couple weeks.”

Even with Florida State limping to a 1-4 record through the first month of the season, focus was expected to turn to Tallahassee this weekend as Uiagalelei, a former five-star recruit out of high school, took on his former Clemson team.

Instead, the Seminoles are expected to turn to backup Brock Glenn, who was listed as a co-starter on the depth chart this week, as Uiagalelei deals with a finger injury on his throwing hand.

Uiagalelei exited FSU’s blowout loss to SMU in the fourth quarter on Saturday after throwing a pick six with 12:55 to play. Florida State’s offense has been the worst in the ACC and one of the worst nationally, coming in at No. 125.

Through five games, Uiagalelei is 84-of-156 passing for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns with six interceptions — including three in the 42-16 loss to SMU.

Glenn has just four pass attempts this season, all in the SMU game, and completed none of them. Clemson’s defense ranks just No. 101 nationally and No. 16 in the ACC. But this is another twist for an FSU team already in disarray.

“I thought he made some good decisions (in practice). Today was the first day of installation (for Clemson). Brock is very smart,” Norvell told reporters. “Both him (and freshman) Luke (Kromenhoek). It’s about trusting timing, technique. I’ve been very pleased with how both those guys have prepared.”
