The Packers will be without Romeo Doubs during their Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, as the wide receiver is suspended one game due to conduct detrimental to the team, Green Bay announced Saturday.
The Packers had initially listed Doubs as doubtful citing personal reasons. Throughout the week, reports emerged suggesting Doubs was missing practice due to dissatisfaction with his role on the team.
“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement. “His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action. While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week.”
This season, Doubs is third on the team in targets (20), tied for second in catches (12) and second in yards (169) but has yet to score a touchdown.
Green Bay has played only four games, but the Nevada product’s share of the offense has declined. In 2023, Doubs led the team in targets (96), finished second in catches (59) and was tied for first in touchdowns (8).
Doubs, 24, is currently on his rookie deal and is signed through the 2025 season.
What this means for Green Bay
While all the Packers’ injured and rehabbing players were at least present at practice this week, Doubs was not on either Thursday or Friday after being a full participant on Wednesday. Doubs reportedly skipped practice out of frustration with his role.
Through four games, two of which the Packers started a backup quarterback who threw less than 20 times in each game, Doubs ranks third on the team in targets with 20, two behind Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks. The Packers will now be without Doubs and wide receiver Christian Watson (ankle) against the Rams on Sunday. — Matt Schneidman, Packers beat writer
