Declan Rice will play no part in Arsenal’s Champions League match against Inter Milan on Wednesday after being left out of the club’s 23-man travelling party.
The 25-year-old midfielder played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday but will not fly to Italy with the rest of the first-team squad after missing training on Tuesday afternoon with an unspecified issue.
Rice has started 12 out of Arsenal’s 13 Premier League and Champions League games so far this season, missing the 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in September through suspension for his red card at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Meanwhile club captain Martin Odegaard could be in line for his first appearance for over two months after returning to full training.
The Norwegian midfielder has not featured for Arsenal in any of their last 12 games in all competitions after damaging ankle ligaments while on international duty in September, but he has been included in the travelling squad for Wednesday’s Champions League fixture.
Defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori remain unavailable with separate knee issues.
Calafiori has not featured since limping out of Arsenal’s Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk on October 22, while Tomiyasu has been limited to one, six-minute appearance so far this term.
Arsenal are ninth in the Champions League table having taken seven points from a possible nine.
They return to Premier League action against Chelsea on Sunday before the final international break of 2024.
