New York Giants coach Brian Daboll said the team would “evaluate” the quarterback position after Daniel Jones threw two interceptions in a 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
“We got a lot of work to do here in the next few days, in the next week, and we’ll evaluate where we’re at and what we need to do,” Daboll said when asked about the Giants’ future at quarterback.
Down 17-14, the Giants had a chance to take the lead with six minutes remaining, but a misfire by Jones on a pass meant for Tyrone Tracy Jr. led to an interception by the Panthers’ Josey Jewell.

Jones finished with 190 passing yards and a 50.5 passer rating, along with 26 rushing yards and one TD. When asked about his performance Sunday, Jones called it “not good enough.”
“(We) came up short, obviously hurt ourselves a lot,” Jones said. “It’s very frustrating.”
Earlier in the game, Jones threw an interception in the red zone with less than two minutes left in the second quarter. A rolling Jones threw a pass that deflected off the helmet of outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney and into the arms of safety Xavier Woods. The Panthers failed to score on the turnover, but they maintained their 10-0 lead heading into halftime.

It marked the second time this season the Giants were shut out in the first half of the game, with the first coming against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6. Since Daboll arrived in 2022, the Giants have been shut out in the first half eight times.
Daboll said he did not consider benching Jones at halftime despite the second-quarter interception.
“We gotta tighten up quite a bit of things, some situational football. The turnovers got us today,” Daboll said of the Giants’ plans for their upcoming bye. “We’ll go back, get to work and make improvements that we should make.”
With the loss, the Giants fell to 2-8. They have a bye in Week 11 and will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12.
