Jude Bellingham is “fine” despite asking to be substituted after suffering discomfort in Real Madrid’s win at Girona but Ferland Mendy has suffered an injury setback, Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed.
Bellingham opened the scoring in the 36th minute for Ancelotti’s side and provided the assist for Arda Guler’s strike to double the lead in the 55th minute, but asked to be substituted off six minutes later after going to the ground in discomfort and pointing to his adductor muscle.
The England international was replaced by Dani Ceballos before Kylian Mbappe added a third goal minutes later, before full-back Mendy was substituted off late on to be replaced by Fran Garcia.
After the match in Montilivi, Ancelotti played down Bellingham’s injury but ruled Mendy out of the midweek Champions League trip to Atalanta.
“Jude is fine, he had a bit of tiredness in the leg and he preferred not to take risks in the last few minutes, I think he’s fine,” Ancelotti said.
“We’ve had the muscle injury to Mendy. He will not be available for Tuesday.
“Rodrygo was not feeling well and we preferred to leave him in Valdebebas to work, I think he will be available for Tuesday.”
Saturday’s win at Girona, coupled with Barcelona drawing 2-2 at Real Betis earlier in the day, leaves Madrid two points behind Hansi Flick’s side with a game in hand.
