Rashee Rice, the Chiefs’ leading receiver, was carted back to the locker room and quickly ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a right knee injury.
Rice sustained his injury on the Chiefs’ second possession. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw an interception, which led to a return by cornerback Kristian Fulton. Rice chased Fulton and tried to punch the ball out to force a fumble. Although Rice was out of bounds when he punched the ball loose, he was then hit by Mahomes, who was attempting to tackle Fulton.
Coming into Sunday, Rice’s 24 receptions, 288 receiving yards, and two receiving touchdowns lead all Chiefs players. No other player in Kansas City has more than 10 receptions or 100 receiving yards on the season.
