It’s the second half of November, and the biggest game of the week in college football involves Indiana. The Hoosiers head to Ohio State with an undefeated 10-0 record but are significant underdogs this Saturday.
The Buckeyes are double-digit favorites as of Monday morning, and most of the bets are going to OSU. Indiana has played a soft schedule so far. Its only win against a team with a winning record is 6-5 Washington. The Hoosiers had been racking up style points with blowout wins and didn’t trail until their ninth game. However, Michigan held the Hoosiers to three points in the second half two weeks ago in a 20-15 Indiana win. Playing Ohio State in Columbus is a significant step up in opponent, and the odds reflect that.
The other big game on paper in Week 13 is also a matchup that wouldn’t have drawn attention before the season and it involves one of the other two remaining undefeated teams: Army at Notre Dame. The Black Knights are getting more than two touchdowns, but if they pull off the shocking upset, things could get really weird in the College Football Playoff race. An undefeated Army and a one-loss Boise State would have very strong resumes to get into the CFP and even enter the conversation to get a top-four seed.
Several CFP contenders are facing tricky road tests this weekend. Ole Miss (-9.5) goes to Florida after the Gators just knocked off LSU in Gainesville. SMU, the lone remaining undefeated team in ACC play, heads to Virginia as a 9.5-point favorite. Penn State (-12.5) is at an already bowl-eligible Minnesota. BYU, now 9-1 after suffering its first loss, is an underdog at 8-2 Arizona State. Colorado is only a three-point favorite at Kansas, which just won at BYU. Alabama is a two-touchdown favorite at Oklahoma. Texas A&M is favored by less than a field goal (-2.5) at Auburn.
Some of those teams falling would be more shocking than others, but there is a decent chance one or two of those teams lose this weekend.
Two teams in the AP Top 25 rankings are on bye this week: No. 1 Oregon and No. 20 Tulane.
