Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will suit up in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears in a battle of this year’s No. 1 and No. 2 picks, the team announced Sunday.
Daniels, 23, suffered a rib injury in the first quarter of last week’s 40-7 win over the Carolina Panthers when two defenders tackled Daniels at the end of a 46-yard run on Washington’s opening play. He would finish the drive but was ultimately taken out and did not return. Marcus Mariota replaced Daniels and threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
Listed as questionable on the injury report, Daniels did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but partially participated in practice on Friday.
Daniels has been on a historic pace since starting for the Commanders. Through his first seven starts, Daniels has thrown for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, two interceptions and rushed for four touchdowns, becoming the fastest rookie to post at least 1,000 passing yards and 300 rushing yards. He currently leads in the NFL in completion percentage at 75.6 percent.
He now is set to play against the Chicago Bears and first overall pick Caleb Williams. This will mark the sixth time in NFL history that quarterbacks picked No. 1 and No. 2 face off in their rookie season.
