Eric Bieniemy out as UCLA offensive coordinator: Sources

UCLA is parting ways with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after one season with the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant leading UCLA’s offense, two people involved in the decision told The Athletic on Thursday.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not been made official yet by the school.

First-year coach DeShaun Foster hired Bieniemy to run the offense, but the Bruins ranked near the bottom of the Big Ten in total offense and last in rushing at 3.07 yards per carry and only four rushing touchdowns.

The Bruins went 5-7 under Foster, the former UCLA player and assistant who replaced Chip Kelly after he left in February to be the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

Bieniemy, the former Colorado running back and assistant coach, spent most of the previous decade in the NFL as an assistant coach, winning two Super Bowls with the Chiefs while working for coach Andy Reid.

One of the sources said Indiana quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri is the leading candidate to replace Bieniemy.
