Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has notched countless records and accomplishments in her short time in the WNBA, but her latest feat comes off the hardwood.
Clark, 22, inked a multiyear partnership with Wilson to launch her signature basketball in May and when the balls went on sale Monday, they reportedly sold out in less than 40 minutes. Per Sports Business Journal, the number of basketballs Clark sold is roughly in the “tens of thousands.”
“It feels surreal to have my own basketball collection,” said Clark on Wilson’s website. “And I hope it inspires the next generation of boys and girls to pick up a basketball and play.”
While there is no stock for fans to purchase on Wilson’s website, it does show Clark’s seven signature balls, ranging in price from $24.95 to $99.95. But for fans clamoring for one of the signature balls, they are being resold on aftermarket websites such as eBay for $200. Clark’s dominance on the court is translating to a high demand for products associated with her name.
The rookie is averaging 19.1 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds entering Thursday. Her points and assists per contest lead all rookies.
“Caitlin Clark is not just a record-setting athlete, but a cultural icon who has had a profound impact on the game. We couldn’t be prouder to join forces with her to continue innovating basketball both on and off the court,” Amanda Lamb, vice president of Wilson Brand, said in PR News.
Clark and the Fever (19-18) have three games remaining during the regular season, and have already clinched a playoff spot. Indiana’s next game comes and it plays host to hosts the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.
