Leeds head of recruitment Jordan Miles set to leave club

Leeds United head of recruitment Jordan Miles is set to leave after nine months at the Championship club.

Miles joined Leeds from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen in February, having held similar recruitment roles at West Ham, Derby County and Ipswich Town.

He oversaw one transfer window during the summer, when Leeds made significant sales amid a rebuild for a second season in the Championship.

Alex Davies will be promoted internally to become the new head of recruitment, while Adam Underwood continues as head of football operations.

Underwood will take on the lead role on player trading while Nick Hammond will continue in his consultancy role.

The changes come after technical director Gretar Steinsson’s departure from Leeds to take up a role within majority owners 49ers Enterprises global football organisation.

Steinsson will not be replaced at Leeds as he moves to focus on industry trend research, technology and player advancements for the 49ers.

The move should see Steinsson work on projects that will primarily benefit Leeds and any future football clubs that become part of the organisation.

In May 2024, Red Bull became a minority investor in Leeds as well as becoming their front of shirt sponsor for the 2024-25 season.

Davies’ promotion provides continuity after Miles’ exit

The changes to Leeds’ recruitment team come at a crucial time with the January transfer window just weeks away. Making signings in the winter window can be tricky business but Leeds are organised and will have a plan in place — the promotion of Alex Davies internally provides continuity.

It remains to be seen how active Leeds need to be in January but a streamlined senior football team should work for them given the experience of those already in place.

The changes, particularly Steinsson’s move under the umbrella of 49ers Enterprises, are an interesting development in opening the door to a multi-club model under their ownership.

Leeds’ transfer team navigated a difficult summer window with the high profile sales of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter. Their ability to find the next wave of Championship-ready talent in Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle and Joe Rodon for reasonable fees has broadly been a success.
