EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Leonard Williams assured the media earlier this week he harbored no ill feelings toward the New York Jets, considering how long it had been since he played for the team that drafted him in 2015.
While that might be true, Williams played like a man with a point to prove in Seattle’s 26-21 victory over the Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Williams’ 92-yard pick six turned the tide in the first half when the Seahawks were trailing by two touchdowns, and his two sacks of quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the Jets’ final drive were among the biggest plays in Seattle’s third consecutive victory. The Seahawks improved to 7-5 and maintained first place in the NFC West while drastically increasing their playoff odds ahead of a Week 14 rematch with the second-place Arizona Cardinals (6-6), who fell to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Seattle’s odds of making the playoffs jumped to 40 percent, while its chances of winning the division sit at 36 percent, according to The Athletic’s projection model. Both were below 26 percent entering this game and in single digits before the three-game win streak.
