Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is out indefinitely after suffering an MCL injury to his knee during Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple reports.
Montgomery had been a key piece in the Lions’ offense combining with running back Jahmyr Gibbs to form one of the NFL’s best backfield tandems. Montgomery has tallied 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games this season. This followed up his 2023 season where he totaled 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Lions gave Montgomery a two-year extension worth $18.25 million with $10.5 million guaranteed in October.
The Chicago Bears selected Montgomery in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft spending the first four seasons of his NFL career there before signing with the Lions.
This adds another injury blow from Sunday’s game. Defensive tackle Alim McNeill will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, while cornerback Carlton Davis is expected to miss six weeks with a broken jaw.
