Pep Guardiola expects Nathan Ake to be out until the next international break after picking up an injury while away with the Netherlands.
The defender was forced off injured during the Netherlands’ Nations League draw against Germany on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old went down unchallenged in the 39th minute of the first half and was subsequently taken off the field on a stretcher.
“He’s injured,” the Manchester City manager said on Friday. “I think it will be until the next international break.
“We are unlucky with Nathan, every time he goes to the national team he is injured.”
Ake’s absence comes before a busy run of fixtures for City, starting at home to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Guardiola’s side begin their Champions League campaign against Inter Milan on Wednesday, before playing host to Arsenal the following Sunday.
Ake has played just three minutes in City’s opening three Premier League matches of the new season behind Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
The former Chelsea defender has been a mainstay in Guardiola’s side over recent seasons, having made 44 appearances in all competitions in 2023-24.
