Nottingham Forest have already launched an appeal against their latest fine following a Football Association (FA) charge.
The club were fined £125,000 for their part in a melee in the 89th minute of the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, October 6.
Forest accept that they were guilty of failing to control their players at Stamford Bridge, but believe the size of the fine is excessive.
Chelsea were fined £40,000 for their part in the incident, which came after a foul by Neco Williams on Marc Cucurella, which sparked a clash by the side of the pitch involving players from both teams.
In his report of the incident, referee Chris Kavanagh stated: “The momentum of the Chelsea player takes him into his manager and both end up on the ground. Following this there were large numbers of players, subs and technical area staff involved in a mass confrontation.
“After we calmed down the situation, we cautioned Neco Williams for the trip, Marc Cucurella for dissent towards the 4th official and Levi Colwill for adopting aggressive attitude.”
Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson appeared to strike Forest defender Morato amid the fracas.
The written verdict from the FA stated that Forest’s punishment was more severe, after previous similar infractions were taken into account. This was the sixth similar charge Forest have faced in less than three years.
Forest were fined £10,000 for an incident in an East Midlands derby with Derby County in January 2022, they collected a £25,000 fine for an incident in a Premier League clash with Crystal Palace in November 2022, a £40,000 fine was handed out following an EFL Cup game with Wolves in January 2023 and another incident in a match against Wolves, in April 2023, was followed by a £55,000 fine.
The three-man panel also noted that a fine of £75,000 had been handed out at the end of last season, in April, during a game with Liverpool at the City Ground on March 2, after the visitors had scored an injury time winner through Darwin Nunez, following a mistake by referee Paul Tierney.
Play had been stopped to allow a Liverpool player to receive treatment to an injury, at a time when Forest had been on the attack through Callum Hudson-Odoi — but Tierney returned possession to Liverpool after the stoppage and, as a result, they scored.
This latest fine follows a string of FA charges for Forest.
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will serve the last of his three-match touchline ban when West Ham visit the City Ground this weekend, which came in the aftermath of him receiving a red card at Brighton, when he reacted angrily to Morgan Gibbs-White being shown a second yellow card.
On top of the automatic one-match ban Gibbs-White received for his red card, the FA handed him a further suspension for his reaction to the decision.
While Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was handed a five-match stadium ban after he was accused of spitting at the feet of the match officials in the tunnel, following the 1-0 defeat to Fulham last month, a game in which Fulham won courtesy of a penalty, while Forest had a similar penalty appeal of their own rejected.
