Oklahoma is hiring Washington State assistant coach Ben Arbuckle to be its offensive coordinator, two people involved in the decision told The Athletic on Monday. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the school was still preparing an official announcement.

The 29-year-old Arbuckle has spent the last two seasons at Washington State, directing offenses that ranked in the top 20 nationally in yards per play. Oklahoma coach Brent Venables fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell midseason as the Sooners struggled to a 6-6 record. Oklahoma ranks 126th in the Football Bowl Subdivision (out of 134 teams) in yards per play at 4.78.
