Pitt is finalizing a deal to make former Auburn and Buffalo athletic director Allen Greene its next AD, a person briefed on the situation confirmed Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Pitt was still preparing an official announcement and completing details of an agreement.
Greene is currently senior deputy athletic director and chief operating officer at Tennessee. He has been with the Volunteers for just under a year after spending a year in a similar role at Mississippi.
ESPN first reported that Pitt was expected to hire Greene.
The 47-year-old Greene replaces Heather Lyke, who was fired last month after eight years at the school.
Greene, who was born in Seattle, was Auburn’s AD from 2018 to 2022 before being let go. Before that, he was athletic director at Buffalo from 2015 to 2018.
A Notre Dame graduate and former Fighting Irish baseball player, Greene was drafted by the New York Yankees and played minor league baseball for four years before pursuing a career in college athletics.
