Rangers scratch Chris Kreider, their longest-tenured player, for game vs. Devils

The New York Rangers made Chris Kreider a healthy scratch Monday against the New Jersey Devils. Kreider is the longest-tenured player on the team and is third in franchise history in goals, but he has only 11 goals and one assist in 30 games this season.

Kreider previously missed three games in November with a back injury. He’s had a tumultuous season during which general manager Chris Drury floated his name to other general managers saying he was open to making trades.

Kreider is one of many veterans struggling during the Rangers’ recent spiral in the standings. He has only three points in his past 12 games. The Rangers enter the Devils game with a 16-16-1 record — hard to fathom after their 12-4-1 start and winning the Presidents’ trophy a season ago.

Kreider is signed through 2026-27 with a $6.5 million cap hit.
