The Simpsons may be responsible for a primetime appearance for the struggling Cincinnati Bengals and the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas is 3-7 and has lost five straight games while Cincinnati is 4-7 after a 1-5 start to the season.
Both franchises’ disappointing campaigns would seem to make their Week 14 “Monday Night Football” matchup a prime candidate to be flexed — especially with the added caveat that Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott will still be on IR.
However, due to a planned “Simpsons”-themed alternate cast, the matchup is set to remain in its primetime slot as the themed animations and broadcast packages tied to the Bengals and Cowboys are already created, team and league sources confirmed Tuesday. SI.com first reported the news.
“The Simpsons Funday Football” will air along ESPN’s regular broadcast on Disney+ and ESPN+, as well as NFL+ for mobile viewers, and will place the animated versions of the Bengals and Cowboys in the fictional Springfield’s Atoms Stadium with characters from the popular series conducting the broadcast.
This event will be similar to the “Toy Story”-themed broadcast ESPN did for last season’s Week 4 matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars.
