The Houston Texans placed wide receiver Nico Collins on injured reserve Wednesday, the team announced.
Collins suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter of the Texans’ 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. He’ll be out for at least the next four games, meaning he’ll be eligible to return for Houston’s Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said on Monday that Collins would be “week to week” with the hamstring injury.
“Nico is in good spirits. Of course, it takes a couple of weeks for a hamstring. We’ll evaluate that on a week-to-week basis and see where we can get him,” Ryans said.
The fourth-year wide receiver caught both of his targets for 78 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown in which he limped as he jogged into the end zone to give the Texans a 14-3 lead.
The 25-year-old has become quarterback C.J. Stroud’s go-to-target for the AFC South-leading Texans. Collins leads the league in receiving yards (567) and is tied for third in receptions (32) and fifth in targets (45).
With Collins sidelined, Stroud will likely turn to four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs, second-year pass catcher Tank Dell and veteran tight end Dalton Schultz to lead the way in the passing game.
Coming off his breakout 80-catch, 1,297-receiving yard season in 2023, Collins nabbed a three-year contract extension with Houston this past offseason.
