West Virginia safety Aubrey Burks was stretchered off the field during Saturday’s game against Kansas. Play stopped in the second quarter as medical personnel tended to Burks, who lay motionless on the sideline.
A trainer tending to Burks clutched his right arm as Burks was wheeled off while wearing a neck brace.
It is unclear what caused the issue. Burks was not in game action during the incident.
“They’ve cleared the benches. … He looked to be in a lot of pain and struggling to move some of his extremities,” ESPN sideline report Lauren Sisler said on the broadcast.
Sisler said Burks was placed in an ambulance and taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, which shares a parking lot with Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, W.V.
The senior DB is one of West Virginia’s better defensive players. He’s recorded 127 tackles, including 95 solo tackles, and 2 1/2 sacks through his four seasons with the Mountaineers.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
